  FG Donates N30m to Family of Nigeria’s Flag Designer The Federal Government has donated ₦30 million to the family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of Nigeria’s National Flag, two years after his passing.  NLC Declares Nationwide Protest Over Telecom Tariff Hike The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a nationwide protest against the recent 50% increase in telecommunications tariffs.  The protest is set for Tuesday, February 4, 2025. In a communiqué issued after its National Administrative Council (NAC) meeting, the NLC strongly condemned the hike, calling it “insensitive and unjustifiable.” Telecom operators had initially proposed a 100% increase, but the Federal Government approved a 50% adjustment instead. According to Leadership News, Operatives from the Ondo State Police Command have arrested members of a child trafficking syndicate involved in the illegal sale of children. The arrested suspects include 43-year-old Lukman Isiaka, 23-year-old Abosede Olanipekun, and 68-year-old Mrs. Sabira Izuorah. According to police reports, the suspects were found in possession of 14 babies and toddlers who had been stolen from various locations in Akure, The children, who ranged in age from three weeks to two months old, were recovered from Mrs. Izuorah. She is alleged to have run an orphanage in Ihiala, Anambra State, where the stolen children were brought for further trafficking. The discovery has raised serious concerns over the illegal trade of children across state lines in Nigeria. Salako said despite the well-documented harmful effects, the use of skin-bleaching products like creams, ointments, soap, pills and injections is common among non-white populations throughout the world. Speaking at the high-level segment of the regional awareness-raising workshop on the elimination of lightening cosmetics products in Gabon, he stated that bleaching products is particularly widespread in Africa, especially among women.
