 Four Arrested for Setting 74-Year-Old Wheelchair User Abl+ze in Anambra


The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects, including 21-year-old Chinyere Ekwenugo, for the m¥rder of a 74-year-old wheelchair-bound woman in Ifitedenu. 


Chinyere, identified as the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently at large, confessed that Igwe and three others set the victim on fir£.


The police also arrested Uzochukwu Okeke (47), Fidel Anayo (60), and Ikenna Anene (54), all from Abagana, for their involvement. The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. and was confirmed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson. Officers from the Abagana Divisional Police Headquarters recovered the victim’s charred remains, wheelchair, and a casket intended for her burial.


Ikenga noted that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, and efforts are underway to locate the fleeing Igwe. The victim’s b+dy has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.


In a separate operation, police arrested 25-year-old Maduka Okoye, suspected of being a member of the Baggars Confraternity, after a sh%%ting incident in Abagana. Acting on credible intelligence, officers recovered three spent cartridges from the scene. Okoye confessed that the att+ck stemmed from a clash with members of the Axe Men Confraternity.


The police have since restored calm in the community and are working to apprehend other gang members. The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has assured the public of a thorough investigation into both incidents.
