Peace Initiative Committee of Abeokuta Central

Vision Statement:

To build a united, peaceful, and progressive Abeokuta where all confraternity members live in harmony, uphold mutual respect, and contribute positively to the community, educational institutions, and national development.

Mission Statement:

To curb confraternity-related killings and conflicts in Abeokuta through peaceful engagement, dialogue, grassroots sensitization, and collaboration with security agencies, media, and community stakeholders while reorienting members across campuses and local areas towards unity, discipline, and purposeful brotherhood.

Lines of Action:

1. Engagement and Reorientation of Members

Campus Outreach Teams: Deploy neutral peace envoys to various universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education to hold private and secure meetings with known confraternity heads and influencers.

Peace Forums and Dialogue Sessions: Organize inter-confraternity “One Brotherhood” Peace Summits on campuses with respected alumni as mediators.

Code of Ethics Circulation: Promote a common peace charter or “Oath of Non-Violence”, agreed upon and signed by the representatives of each group.

2. Community Sensitization and Grassroots Penetration

Zonal Coordinators: Appoint Peace Ambassadors in local areas to identify issues before they escalate.

Traditional and Religious Alliances: Partner with baales, chiefs, imams, pastors to mediate and advise youths on the consequences of violence and the stand of  law enforcement against such.

Peace Walks and Townhall Dialogues: Organize community peace rallies and awareness programs in previously hot zones in Abeokuta

3. Collaboration with Law Enforcement

Non-Confrontational Liaison with the Police:

To Request for a dedicated peace officer liaison from the Nigeria Police in Abeokuta who will work confidentially with the Committee.

To Establish anonymous reporting channels in the police  for potential violence or retaliation threats.

To advocate  for rehabilitation over prosecution for repentant members involved in non-lethal crimes.

4. Media Involvement and Positive Messaging

Strategic Media Partnerships:

We shall in no time  collaborate  with local radio (e.g. RockCity FM, Ogun Radio and other new media stands ) to run weekly Peace Initiative Hour” programs with guest appearances from ex-members, activists, and law enforcement.

Public Rebranding Efforts: We shall Shift the narrative from “cultism” to “cultural brotherhood” — focusing on empowerment, talent, education, and peace.

5. Conflict Resolution and Mediation Cell

To set  up a Conflict Resolution Sub-Committee composed of respected elders from each group to intervene quickly in brewing  conflicts.

To set up  a Rapid Mediation Helpline available 24/7, ensuring fast dialogue and de-escalation of inter confraternity conflicts

Sustainability Plan

Monthly Joint Review Meetings between the three confraternities to review progress and handle emerging tensions.

We shall Introduce Peace Awards and Recognition for institutions, individuals, or zones that exemplify harmony.
