Court Sentences TikTok Influencers, TDollar and TobiNation to Six Months Imprisonment for Naira Ab¥se in Lagos
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of Babatunde Peter Olaitan and Tobilola Olamide for ab¥sing the Nigerian currency.
The duo was sentenced to six months imprisonment each by Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, May 8, 2025. They were arraigned on separate one-count charges for tampering with Naira notes by spraying them at a social event held on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi.
Both pleaded guilty to the charges, which are p¥nishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
The EFCC, through its prosecution team and an investigative officer, Ibrahim Bukar, presented evidence including video footage and the defendants’ confessional statements. The investigation was initiated following a viral TikTok video showing Olaitan, also known as TDollar, spraying Naira notes in a nightclub.
Justice Owoeye convicted the defendants and sentenced them to six months in prison, with an option of a N200,000 fine each.
