A few hours ago, the Nigeria Police Force released a statement on its X (formerly Twitter) page responding to the allegations made by VeryDarkMan (VDM) against AIG Moshood Jimoh of Zone 2, Lagos.

THE NIGERIA POLICE HAS FINALLY RESPONDED TO VDM’S ALLEGATIONS.

WHAT ARE THEY REALLY SAYING?

I have carefully read the statement, and let me explain it in simple terms.

🥢The Police say the criminal case is already before the court.

According to the Police, the matter has already been investigated and taken to court based on the legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In simple terms, they are saying:

“The case is now before the court, so it is the judge not social media that will decide who is right or wrong.”

That is what lawyers mean when they say a matter is sub judice. Once a case is before a court, everyone is expected to allow the judicial process to run its course.

🥢AIG Moshood Jimoh has been invited for questioning.

The Police also confirmed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Force CID) has invited AIG Moshood Jimoh over the allegations made against him.

This means the Police are not dismissing the allegations outright. They are saying they have commenced an internal investigation to determine whether there was any misconduct.

🥢VDM has also been invited.

The Police disclosed that they wrote to VeryDarkMan (VDM) on 30 July 2026, inviting him to appear before the Force CID in Abuja.

In simple terms, they are saying:

“If you have made these allegations publicly, come and present your evidence so we can investigate them properly.”

🥢The Police say no officer is above the law.

The Force stated that every police officer, regardless of rank, is subject to the law and the Police disciplinary process.

According to them, if any officer is found culpable after the investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

🥢They also issued an important warning.

The Police acknowledged that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to freedom of expression and to demand accountability from public institutions. However, they also made it clear that freedom of expression does not extend to making allegations without evidence.

According to the Police, if an allegation is eventually found to be false and was made only to damage someone’s reputation, they reserve the right to take appropriate legal action.

🥢Their message to VDM.

The Police urged VDM to honour their invitation, cooperate with the investigation, and allow both the internal investigation and the court proceedings to continue without interference.

In other words, the Police are asking everyone to allow due process to take its course instead of trying the matter on social media.
