Police Arrest Nine Suspects Over M¥rder of Anambra Lawmaker
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of nine suspects linked to the brutal murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, the Onitsha North Constituency 1 representative in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, was found d+ad on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the 2nd Niger Bridge. His decomposing body was recovered by a joint security team comprising the police and the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG).
Confirming the arrests at a press briefing in Awka, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam revealed that two pump-action guns were recovered from the suspects. He noted that one suspect sustained a g¥nshot wound during a g¥nfight with security operatives.
Among those arrested are Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), and Chinonso Olisa (19). Others include Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25), and Peter Sunday (20), whom the police described as the most notorious, with a tattoo reading “No Peace 4 the Government” on his chest.
Additionally, police operatives arrested a suspected kidnapper, Chidiebere Nwosu, in Nnewi and neutralized members of his gang responsible for attacking police personnel. CP Itam also disclosed that over 100 criminals have been eliminated, and several criminal camps dismantled across Anambra State.
