Repentant Boko Haram Members Swear Oath With Quran Before Reintegration Into Society — Borno Govt assures Nigerians
The Borno State Government has disclosed that former Boko Haram members who have undergone its rehabilitation and deradicalisation process are required to swear an oath using the Quran before being reintegrated into society.
The government said this step is part of its structured “Borno Model” aimed at ensuring commitment from repentant individuals and discouraging a return to violent extremism.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, made this known during an interview with News Central Television on Monday, May 11, 2026. She explained that the oath-taking is the final stage of the rehabilitation process and carries significant spiritual weight for those involved.
According to her, participants pass through multiple phases of rehabilitation before reaching this final stage, where they swear on the Quran as a form of solemn pledge. She added that the religious oath is intended to reinforce accountability and commitment among the repentant individuals.
