‘They Threw Me Out In the Rain’ —Anambra Widow Cries Out as In-Laws Demolish Her Home, Disown Her Children After Husband’s De@th
A grieving widow in Anambra State, Mrs. Eze-Onwumere Vivian, is seeking urgent help after being forcefully evicted from her home and disowned by her in-laws following the de@th of her husband, Philimon, on December 17, 2023.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, the heartbroken mother accused her late husband’s brother, Isaiah Eze-Onwumere, and his children of throwing her and her children out, questioning the paternity of the children and claiming they do not belong to their late father.
Despite having evidence of their traditional marriage, conducted in her hometown in Nsukka and attended by several members of her late husband’s family, Mrs. Vivian said her in-laws have refused to acknowledge her status as his wife.
The situation escalated when the family allegedly attempted to sell the land where she and her son have been living. She said she was forced to intervene by placing a caveat at the Ministry of Land to stop the sale
“No one supported me while my husband was s+ck,” she recalled. “It was just me and his elder brother, Christian, who struggled and spent money. After he d+ed, they tried to sell the land just ten days later.”
She claimed Isaiah and his children, especially one Ebuka, led the push to take over and sell the land. “Ebuka didn’t show up or contribute a dime when my husband was ill, yet he’s the one claiming the right to sell his property? I refused.”
Mrs. Vivian said her efforts to protect her late husband’s property and her children’s inheritance have been ignored, and she is now appealing to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, and his wife to intervene.
The ordeal reached a dev@stating peak on July 4. According to her, while she was away buying household items, her belongings were thrown out into the rain and the house was demolished
“I returned to find my things outside, soaked in the rain, and the roof of the house destroyed,” she said. “They claimed there was a court order, but I never received any notice”
