Local government vice-chairman remanded in prison for faking her own kidn@p to raise funds for politics in Ekiti
A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Grace Ogunleye, over her alleged role in staging her own k+dn@pping.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun gave the ruling on Wednesday after she was arraigned on multiple charges connected to the alleged self-orchestrated abduction.
The court ordered that she be held at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre while the case file is duplicated and sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
According to reports, Ogunleye was declared k+dn@pped on May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road, where her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside.
The reported incident led to a joint rescue operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, military personnel, and local security operatives before she was found on May 21, 2026.
However, preliminary police investigations allegedly indicated that the k+dn@pping was staged in an attempt to raise money for financial obligations and political commitments.
The case has been adjourned pending further instructions from the DPP. Reacting, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Pius Dada, condemned the alleged act, stating that no public office holder would be protected from justice.
He also described the incident as disgraceful and one capable of damaging public trust in government officials and security agencies.
